What topics are we looking for?

This year, we’re organising the talks and workshops into three thematic areas:

  • “Science & Nature” for anything dealing with the intersection of sustainability, science and the environment.
  • “Society & Self-Discovery” for topics centred on people, whether it’s how we as a hacking community interact with the world or mental health.
  • “Art & Technology” for content dealing with creativity or technologies such as 3D printing, sewing machines and computers.

We ask that you avoid using AI models in your entries. If you do use AI models for your entry, this must be clearly indicated. We reserve the right to reject entries that do not meet these criteria.

What do the categories in Openki mean?

The following categories are available:

  • Featured – these are talks and workshops by speakers we have invited especially for Håck ma’s. Only the organisers may assign this category.
  • Our three thematic areas: Science & Nature, Society & Self-Discovery, Art & Technology – you can choose which of these your talk or workshop belongs to.
  • Sign Language Track – Talks and workshops in sign language! We also have on-site interpreting. For more information, see Accessibility
  • Haecksenwerk – As we’re committed to promoting talks, workshops and discussion groups led by women, inter, trans, agender and non-binary people, there’s the option to present your content exclusively to this group in a safer space. If you’d like this for your session, please select this category.
  • DJ & LJ – Music and lighting for our party tower!

Are there any cool slide templates in the Blob design?

Yesssss! Thanks to the outreach team. You don’t have to use them, of course, but Blob would be delighted if you did! Presentation Templates

Can I also suggest a session in which I’m not an expert?

Yes, of course. We’d love that, in fact. On Openki, others can then sign up as mentors if they think they have an edge in terms of knowledge or experience on the topic. Or you can declare it a discussion and moderate a round of discussion on the topic without an expert.

How long do the slots last?

Slots last from 45 minutes to 2 hours. Please specify how much time your session will require.

Who decides when and where each session takes place?

Once a day, we’ll decide together which sessions should take place that day and allocate rooms according to requirements. This is likely to take place, as it did last time, from 1 pm to 2 pm in the main hall (Lise Meitner).

I need special equipment.

If you have specific requirements for the room or need a projector or other equipment, please include this in your proposal; we’ll do our best to accommodate your requests and allocate rooms accordingly. If necessary, we’ll contact you via Openki. Wi-Fi should be available.

I’m a bit unsure about leading a session…

Experience has shown that there are plenty of supportive people in the sessions. Just ask in the session description whether anyone would like to co-lead with you.

I have a question about a specific session

If you want to ask the question publicly, use the comment function at the bottom of the session page. The organiser(s) will be notified directly by email. If you want to ask them something privately, click on the envelope next to their name.
